The annual IRS Dirty Dozen list warns taxpayers about popular scams for the current tax year. #6 on the list is Offer-in-Compromise (OIC) Mills. These “OIC Mills” promise to settle taxes owed to the IRS for “pennies on the dollar.” Many of these companies charge nonrefundable fees, sometimes in the thousands. In reality, many taxpayers could get the same offer from the IRS to settle their debts through other avenues.
