Low Income Taxpayer Clinic
WELCOME TO THE LOW INCOME TAXPAYER CLINIC at INDIANA LEGAL SERVICES
Our goal is to represent, educate, and advocate on behalf of Hoosier taxpayers to ensure that all Indiana residents are able to know, understand, and exercise their fundamental rights as taxpayers.
WHAT WE DO
Our Tax Clinic serves the community by providing FREE legal assistance to Indiana taxpayers involved in disputes with IRS, including:
- Audits/ Exams
- Collection issues
- Innocent spouse relief
- Tax-related identity theft
- Worker misclassification
- Earned Income Tax Credit
- Filing status disputes, and more.
This includes representation before U.S. Tax Court, if necessary. Our Tax Clinic may also represent clients in state tax controversies if they are directly related to federal tax controversies.
We also conduct regular outreach throughout the state in an effort to educate taxpayers regarding their rights and responsibilities as taxpayers. This includes outreach to taxpayers who speak English as a second language, as well as outreach to survivors of abuse. If you are interested in providing tax education to those people within your community, contact us and let us know!
We also have a website devoted to tax information for survivors of domestic abuse. Click here to visit!
