PSA Regarding Immigration Closures

Please note these important announcements which may affect your immigration case. The Indiana Legal Services will continue to provide updates as the situation unfolds.

 

USCIS Indianapolis Field Office

Effective today March 18, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is closed to in-person services at its field offices (including Indianapolis), asylum offices and Application Support Centers (ASCs) to help slow the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The suspension of services will be in effect until at least April 1, 2020.

 

If you have an interview or biometrics appointment scheduled from March 18 – April 1, it will be rescheduled. If you require emergency assistance, you can go www.uscis.gov/contactcenter.

 

Non-Detained Court Hearings in Chicago

The Immigrations courts will be postponing non-detained hearings nationwide in response to the coronavirus pandemic. These postponements are effective March 18, 2020, through April 10, 2020. Detained cases will be heard as scheduled. Filings can still be mailed to the Court if required.

 

Case status and hearing date information on the automated case information hotline (1-800-898-7180) may not be updated for those cases postponedNew hearing notices will be sent out. Following the issuance of a new hearing notice, such information will be updated. As always, court documents such as notices are your official source of information.

 

If you are not detained and have a court hearing March 18 – April 10, your hearing will be rescheduled. You do not need to travel to Chicago.

  

ICE Office in Indianapolis

The ICE Indianapolis Field Office will be closed for all check-in appointments except for:

  • Paying a bond for a detainee in custody
  • Broken GPS ankle monitors
  • Attorneys filing legal documents

For all others you will receive a new scheduled appointment in the mail for after the office reopens. This notice is also posted at our offices.

ISAP Offices remain open at this time, as of March 18, 2020. Continue your scheduled appointments with ISAP until instructed otherwise.

 

Do not attend ICE check in appointments but continue to attend required appointments with ISAP.
