Release of the 2016 Annual Report
We’re excited to announce the release of the Indiana Legal Services 2016 annual report. This past year has been a period of growth and achievement as we have focused on evaluating our existing projects to better understand what truly works best to empower our clients, as well as seeking to expand our reach even further. In 2016, we served over 10,000 low-income Hoosiers seeking assistance for legal guidance, individually tailored legal advice or extended legal services.
This past year, ILS worked to realign the mission and vision of the organization with the current and projected needs of our clients and the state. Thanks to work from our staff and others, ILS established a strategic plan for 2017-2020 that prioritizes providing an impact by using the law to fight poverty, empower clients, and improve access to justice (Our new mission statement).
In light of growing concerns about funding, we have worked hard to diversify our funding sources. Thanks to the support of you and others, we have nearly doubled the amount of private funding raised since 2015 and received two state grants through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute that allowed the creation of two programs serving underrepresented demographics.
In April we hosted a gala to celebrate our 50th anniversary, an achievement only made possible from the generous support of you and other community partners providing contributions of vital funding, expertise, pro bono services or mentoring support. We extend my sincere gratitude to each and every one of our supporters for helping us to take another step toward ensuring equal access to justice in Indiana and allowing us to accomplish this with dignity, fairness, and equality for all people under the law.
